What's in Benjamin's Heart

The boys and I were having a conversation over lunch the other day, and Sam was talking about some types of middle school humor that he doesn't really like.

Then Benjamin jumped in with this: "And I don't like it when people say 'Step on a crack, break your mother's back'..." 

(Pause, while I wait for him to explain.)

"...Because that's not true. That's not why your back hurts." 

Then he looked down at the table and started to cry. 

Poor sweet child. I love him a lot.
